Johari among those feted by President Xi

PETALING JAYA: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul was among the dignitaries who attended a feast hosted by China President Xi Jinping in conjunction with the launching of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

At the event where Johari was accompanied by wife Puan Sri Noraini Mohd, other leaders present were Syria President Bashar al-Assad, King of Cambodia King Norodom Sihamoni, Kuwait Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, South Korea Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão.

In an Instagram post, Johari expressed appreciation towards the organiser’s meticulous preparation in holding the event and said his attendance signified the honour conferred to the Malaysian Parliament.

“As the sole legislative representative (from Malaysia) to the feast, I feel honoured to have met President Xi and leaders from other countries in talks to forge a tighter regional cooperation.

“This is the best opportunity to develop the Asian Century that is socially inclusive and sustainable.

“Malaysia and China will remain committed towards opening opportunities for multilateral cooperation.”
