Man seriously injured after falling from second floor of KK Mall

KOTA KINABALU: A man was seriously hurt after falling from the second floor of a shopping mall at Jalan Sulaman here on Sunday (Sept 24).

It could not be immediately ascertained how the incident happened, but that the 22-year-old man had landed on the roof of a car park.

Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Department chief Ordine Gilu said they received a call over the incident at 10.34am.

He added that a team and the department’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) were immediately deployed to the location.

“Our team then used ropes and a junkin stretcher to carefully hoist the victim to the first floor where others waited to take him into the building,” he said.

Gilu said the EMRS unit subsequently performed the initial treatment on the victim, who is believed to have broken his hip and leg after the fall.

“The man was then brought to a waiting ambulance to be rushed to the hospital for further treatment,” he said.

He added the operation ended at 11.50am after the rescue team assessed that there were no more safety risks.
