Security guard among six held over factory heist

IPOH: A security guard and five other men have been arrested for stealing compressed raw materials used for manufacturing semiconductors.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the 40-year-old man masterminded the robbery at an electronics factory in Jalan Lapangan Terbang on Sept 14.

“Based on our investigation, the suspect, who worked at the same factory, opened the gate to allow his acquaintances to enter the premises before tying up a security guard on duty with cables.

“The armed robbers took the materials worth RM180,000 and fled in a vehicle,” he said in a statement yesterday.

All six suspects, aged between 27 and 47, were arrested at different locations in Ipoh, Selangor and Penang between Sept 20 and 21.

“The main suspect has a prior record and the stolen items were found at his cousin’s house in Bercham.

“The others also have prior records, except the 27-year-old suspect. The 47-year-old suspect also tested positive for drugs,” said ACP Yahaya.

All of them have been remanded until Sept 26.
