Desaru brawl: Cops arrest four more local men to help in probe


KOTA TINGGI: Police detained four local men concerning the brawl during the Desaru International Bike Week after a video of the incident went viral.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said the suspects, in their 20s and 50s, were apprehended between 1.30pm and 7.50pm on Sunday (Sept 24) to assist with investigations.

“A video of the fight was uploaded on social media platforms on Sunday (Sept 24) at about 1.15am," he said in a statement.

Supt Hussin added that those involved in the incident could be seen throwing plastic chairs at each other and using wooden sticks as weapons.

He said that initial urine tests found one of the suspects had tested positive for methamphetamine, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“We have opened an investigation paper on the incident and are identifying the individuals involved in the fight," said Supt Hussin.

He said all suspects had been remanded for three days, and the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code.

Supt Hussin said if convicted, they could be jailed for up to five years or a fine or both.

“We advise the public not to be disturbed by the incident and, at the same time, stop speculating on the incident," he said.

It was reported that a video of the brawl that went viral was taken during the Desaru International Bike Week on Saturday (Sept 23).

The fight erupted due to a misunderstanding between two groups of bikers; one was from the United States, and one was a local group.
