Parts of Penang hit by flash flood on Sept 25 morning


GEORGE TOWN: Flash floods hit several low-lying areas in Batu Maung and Permatang Damar Laut following a heavy downpour since 9am on Monday (Sept 25).

South-West District Civil Defence Force officer Captain (PA) Salman Rahimi Manaf said the rain had stopped before noon and floodwaters had subsided.

He said district Civil Defence personnel had been deployed to the affected areas to monitor and help the affected villagers.

He said at the moment, no temporary relief centre had been activated.

He said the authorities were still assessing the extent of the floods, the damage and number of houses affected.

Among the affected places were Kampung Blok K, Kampung Batu Maung and Jalan Permatang Damar Laut.
