Thieves fail to cart away one-tonne horse statue from JB housing estate

JOHOR BARU: Two thieves managed to cart away a one-tonne statue of horse placed at the entrance of Taman Sri Pulai Perdana near here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Rahmat Ariffin said the statue – which is made of iron and coated with copper – was stolen at 8.29am on Sunday (Sept 24) by the duo using a lorry.

He said police received a report from the residents' association deputy president, who was alerted to the theft by a security guard on duty.

ACP Rahmat said the deputy president and guard tried to pursue the two suspects but were unsuccessful.

"The statue was abandoned by the suspects at the roadside on Jalan Johor Baru-Pontian, about 300m from where it was stolen," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 and Section 511 of the Penal Code.

Photos uploaded on social media show that the statue had been brought back to its original spot.
