Foreign monk nabbed for sexual assault in Puchong

SERDANG: A foreign monk has been detained in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a woman in Puchong.

Serdang acting OCPD Supt Izuddin Ab Wahab said the suspect, in his 40s, was detained in Puchong on Sept 23.

"He has been remanded for seven days until Saturday (Sept 30).

"We are investigating the matter further," he said when contacted on Wednesday (Sept 27).

Supt Izuddin said so far only one victim has come forward to lodge a police report against the suspect.

It was previously reported that a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a foreign monk in Puchong.

Supt Izzudin had said the woman, in her 30s, lodged a police report on the incident last month.

'She alleged that the incident occurred in Puchong six years ago.

"She was sexually assaulted in her own car," he said

The woman's statement has been recorded to assist in the investigation, he said.

"We are also looking for witnesses in the case.

"The suspect has also been identified and we are currently tracking him down," he said.

The case is classified under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, which carries between five and 20 years jail term and whipping upon conviction.
