Candidates focus on three settlements in their campaigning
BENTONG: The three Felda settlements in the constituency are being heavily courted by the Pelangai state by-election candidates and their respective election machinery.
This is because 48.5% or 7,983 voters of the total of 16,456 in Pelangai are in the Felda settlements of Kemasul, Kemahal and Chemomoi.
Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Amizar Abu Adam has been holding a lot of small-scale ceramah or political talks and meeting with voters, including a walkabout at the Felda Chemomoi night market.

He also climbed Bukit Kemasul in Felda Kemasul and met with traders at a field in Felda Kemahal.
Amizar, who is from Felda Chemomoi, was also assisted in the campaign by Pahang Mentri Besar and Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, as well as former prime minister and Bera MP Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Jelebu MP Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias.
As for Perikatan Nasional (PN), which is fielding Kasim Samat as its candidate, the coalition is bringing its top leaders on its campaign trail.
They included PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, as well as Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
The Independent candidate contesting for the seat, businessman Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli, who is Pertubuhan Anak Suara Pahang (PSAP) president, seemed to be under the radar, with no programmes or activities organised by the organisation.
The Pelangai by-election was called following the death of its incumbent Datuk Seri Johari Harun, 53, in a plane crash in Shah Alam, Selangor, on Aug 17.
The Election Commission (EC) has set Oct 7 as the polling day for the Pelangai state by-election.
Meanwhile, EC secretary Datuk Ikmaruldin Ishak said there would not be any early voting for for the by-election as all eligible police personnel would be voting by post.
A total of 73 postal vote forms had been sent out to all eligible voters on Monday.
“They comprise 69 Category 1A voters (EC officials, election staff, police and media personnel), three overseas voters and one Category 1C voter (agencies or organisations).
“The process of sending out the postal votes was done in the presence of postal vote agents from all contesting candidates.
“All the police personnel voting in the Pelangai by-election have been issued with postal vote forms,” he said in a statement, Bernama reported.
Ikmaruldin also reminded postal voters to accurately mark their ballots and complete the Identity Declaration (Form 2) before submitting these documents to the EC returning officer by 5pm on Oct 7.
He said voters should maintain the confidentiality of their votes and not to take pictures of the ballot papers or post them on social media.
