No contest for top five posts in PAS party polls

PETALING JAYA: PAS' top five posts, namely its president, deputy president and three vice presidents, will not be contested in the party's elections next month, says Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

The PAS secretary-general said elections will only be held for its 18 central committee posts.

"No new nominations have been (received) for our top five posts and only the current president and deputy president have been nominated.

"Four nominations for the three vice presidents' posts have been received including Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor but he withdrew, so there is no competition and the (current) line-up will be retained," he said on Friday (Sept 29).

PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and deputy Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man were also unchallenged in the party elections in Terengganu two years ago.

Currently, the three vice presidents are Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Datuk Idris Ahmad and Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

On Wednesday (Sept 27), Muhammad Sanusi said it was likely that Abdul Hadi would retain his position unopposed.

He added that he was not ready to become one of the party’s vice-presidents and would be happy as a central committee member.

The party’s general assembly will take place at the IDCC Shah Alam for three days from Oct 20 to 22.

The election results will be announced on Oct 22.
