House fire in Sipitang leaves 66-year-old man dead


KOTA KINABALU: A fire that broke out at a house in Sipitang district saw a man scorched to death on Friday (Sept 29).

The charred remains of Wong Fook On, 66, was found on the kitchen side of the house that was completely burnt down, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.

"The report came in at 7.39pm alerting the fire at Kampung Melaliah there and a team from Sipitang fire station was sent to the location.

"Also, the fire completely destroyed a car.

"The blaze was under control at 8.05pm, and the remains of the victim have been handed over to the police for further action.

"The team inspected the area to ascertained no more risks and the operation ended at 10.36pm," said the Department spokesman.
