JOHOR BARU: The Johor State Government has allocated RM78mil for this year’s monsoon season preparations, says Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor (pic).
The allocation was given to all 16 local authorities in the state earlier this year to address more than 100 hotspots or flood-prone areas in Johor, the Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman added.
“All flood mitigation works began earlier this year and will continue until early next year in line with the monsoon season.
“Of the 100 hotspots we identified, 16 locations are in the Johor Baru area.
“Some of the places can be addressed in a short-term period of three to six months, and some require a middle-term approach and mitigation works to be conducted in phases,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after officiating the UDA Carnival 2023 at Angsana Johor Baru Mall, here, on Saturday (Sept 30).
Also present were Johor Health and Unity Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon and UDA Holdings Bhd president and chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Salem Kailany.
Besides the 16 local authorities, the state government has also worked with the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) to clean all drainage systems in the state, he added.
“Not only drains but also the monsoon drains and flood retention pools to ensure that there is no blockage during heavy rainfalls,” he added.
