AMPANG: A man has been arrested for assaulting his girlfriend, whom he suspected of also dating another person.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the man had gone to a pharmacy where the victim works around 9.50pm on Thursday (Sept 28).
"The 21-year-old victim tried to run away but the man gave chase and assaulted her before snatching her mobile phone.
“The victim sustained injuries to her mouth and legs. She was treated at Hospital Ampang," he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 1).
ACP Mohd Azam said police detained the 26-year-old suspect around 9.45pm on Saturday (Sept 30).
"We also recovered the victim's phone,” he said.
He said the suspect has six prior offences on his criminal record and tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Police believed the incident occurred because the suspect was upset that the victim is having another boyfriend, other than him.
The suspect will be remanded until Thursday (Oct 5).
