New evidence collected in book printing project case

KAJANG: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki (pic) says a lot of new evidence has been amassed in the case of a former political secretary to Datuk Seri Radzi Jidin when the latter was education minister.

“I believe the investigating officers have collected a lot of new evidence for the case and I will leave it up to them to decide whether they want to call him in for a statement.

“This case is still under active investigation and a lot of new evidence has been collected by MACC investigating officers. However, it is new... give us some time,” he said after attending the 2023 MACC shooting programme with the media in conjunction with its 56th anniversary at the Malaysian Prisons College shooting range here yesterday.

The MACC had on Sept 22 arrested the former political secretary and a printing company owner to assist in the investigation. The case involves a book printing project worth RM80mil through direct negotiation.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrest a day after and said the case is under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.

Meanwhile, commenting on public anger related to the shortage of local white rice although Padiberas Nasional Bhd had guaranteed sufficient supply, Azam said the MACC had not received any reports of corruption related to the issue.

“I assure you that if there is any party involved in this issue, especially if there is an element of corruption in the supply of rice, the MACC will take action.”

On Friday, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu denied claims that the lack of local rice supply was caused by suppliers hoarding it and guaranteed enforcement nationwide. — Bernama
