Teenager among 27 arrested for gambling

JOHOR BARU: A teenager was among 27 people arrested in Ops Dadu Khas, a special operation to crack down on gambling and illegal lottery activities in Johor.

Those nabbed are 24 men and three women, aged between 19 and 64.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the arrests were made during a round of inspections at 18 premises throughout the state on Saturday (Sept 30).

“The enforcement teams also seized 27 mobile phones, 18 printers and cash amounting to RM4,070 in the raids,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 1).

Comm Kamarul Zaman said since the start of the operation on Sept 22, a total of 225 people have been arrested from among the 198 premises checked.

“All those picked up are aged between 18 and 66.

“There are 186 men and 39 women,” he said, adding these people were being investigated under Sections 4A(a) and 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

The premises involved would have their business licenses revoked by the local councils and electricity cut off by Tenaga Nasional Bhd, he said.

Comm Kamarul Zaman urged those with information on illegal activities to contact the state police hotline at 07-221 2999.
