BENTONG: Voters in Pelangai have been urged not to vote for an elected representative who creates a “distance” between the area and the government in the upcoming state by-election.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said it was important to pick a state assemblyman with strong connections to both state and federal governments to ensure the smooth execution of programmes and policies to enhance the community’s living standards.
He said the geographical remoteness of Pelangai was far from the state administrative centre in Kuantan and Putrajaya (federal administrative capital), urging voters not to exacerbate this separation by choosing a representative who could further alienate Pelangai from the government.
Mohamed Khaled, who is also the Higher Education Minister, told reporters this when met after attending the Pahang Semarak Siswa Madani programme at Dataran Simpang Pelangai yesterday, Bernama reported.
Expressing confidence in Barisan’s campaign, Mohamed Khaled anticipates that BN will retain the Pelangai seat, buoyed by the positive response from the people.
