Elderly man killed in Gerik crash


IPOH: An elderly man was killed after the car he was in crashed head-on with a van at KM23 Phase 2 of the East-West Highway between Gerik and Kupang, Kedah.Gerik OCPD Supt Zulkifli Mahmood said the 60-year-old man, who was heading to Gerik, was confirmed to have died on the spot following the 1.45am incident yesterday.

Supt Zulkifli said police believed the incident occurred after the van, which was driven by a 21-year-old man, had lost control and swerved into the opposing lane.

“Following the head-on collision, the van overturned.

“The van had nine other passengers, aged between seven and 44, while a 23-year-old female passenger was in the car,” he said, adding that six of them sustained light injuries while five others were uninjured.
