PETALING JAYA: The Home Ministry has gazetted a Prohibition Order against the graphic novel "When I Was A Kid" by Cheeming Boey under Government Gazette P.U.(A) 283 dated Sept 25.

In a statement released by the ministry, it said the Prohibition Order was in line with Section 7(1) of the Printing and Publishing Act 1984, which regulates printing, importing, reproduction, publication, sale, production, circulation, distribution or ownership of publications strictly prohibited in Malaysia.

"The government would like to express its continued commitment in implementing regulations on publications to prevent the spread of elements, understanding and movements that contradicts the local socio-culture that may threaten national harmony and unity of the common well-being.

"In this case, the result of the publication is subject to Prohibition Order action because it is harmful or may be harmful to morals and public interest by causing concern and anxiety in the community.

"It is noted that, based on the provisions under Section 8(2) of the Printing and Publishing Machinery Act 1984, any individual who prints, imports, produce, reproduce, publish, sell, produce, circulate, offer to sell, distribute, or be in possession of anything related to the publication may be imprisoned for a term not exceeding three years or fined not exceeding RM20,000, or both, if convicted," it said.
