COMPOSER and rapper Altimet (pic), who is now Lembah Jaya assemblyman, said that several veteran artistes have been seeking his help, Harian Metro reported.
Altimet, whose actual name is Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, 45, said he has relayed the issues to the relevant authorities, such as the Social Welfare Department, and up to the federal level.
“Alhamdulillah, they (at the federal level) are also concerned and will try to look into the issues.
“Even though artistes were the first to be affected by Covid-19 and the last to be able to move on after the pandemic, the creative industry can still contribute to the national economy,” he said.
Altimet won the seat in the Selangor state election on Aug 12 under Pakatan Harapan.
Since then, Altimet has pledged to visit the field on a daily basis to learn about the people’s problems.
The Amboi hitmaker stated that he has given up his musical career in order to focus on his new responsibilities as an elected official.
> A man’s love for his paralysed wife prompted him to take her with him to his workplace every day so that he could care for her, Kosmo! reported.
Saffie Mamat, 59, who works as a supervisor at a songket weaving centre in Kuala Terengganu, said he decided to do so because he did not want to bother others with looking after Siti Zaharah Husain, 62, and their two children, both of whom have families of their own.
“I am not willing to let my paralysed wife stay alone at home because I am worried about her safety.
“Before we leave the house every day, I will prepare food first at around 5am,” he said.
Saffie said he did not consider the routine a burden but rather a trust that must be fulfilled.
Siti Zaharah, who previously worked as a general worker at a school, suffered a stroke while returning from work in 2016.
She also had a second stroke two years ago, which worsened her health.
Saffie said every month, about RM500 of his RM1,300 salary will be set aside for her medical treatment.
