Police seize drugs worth RM5.2mil in Penang


GEORGE TOWN: Penang police successfully seized over 157kg of syabu worth RM5.2mil in Southern Seberang Prai.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said a male suspect was also arrested during the operation called Ops Filter conducted on Tuesday (Oct 3) around Prai.

"The police checked two vehicles and confiscated as many as six sacks containing 150 plastic packages of the substance," said Comm Khaw at a press conference at the Penang police headquarters on Wednesday (Oct 4).

"Investigations revealed the drugs were to be distributed from the Northern region until the Klang Valley which could supply around 926,000 addicts.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and those convicted will face the death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
