SAR op resumes for missing ship worker in Tanjung Pelepas waters

GELANG PATAH: A Bangladeshi ship worker is missing after falling into the sea at Tanjung Pelepas Port (PTP) near here.

Iskandar Puteri Fire station chief Mohd Khairi Zainuddin said they received an emergency call at 11.12am on Tuesday (Oct 3).

He said 24 firemen from the Iskandar Puteri and Skudai stations were sent to conduct a search and rescue (SAR) operation at the location where the victim was last seen.

“The victim, identified as Miah Md Ujjal, fell from a height of 6.09m while working on board a ship," Mohd Khairi said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 4).

He said the SAR operation covered a 25m radius around the ship but was temporarily stopped at 3.15pm owing to strong winds and rough sea conditions posing a risk to the team.

“The operation resumed at 6.18pm," he said, adding that it stopped for the night and restarted at 10am on Wednesday.
