Two teens killed after crashing into car driving against traffic


ISKANDAR PUTERI: Two teenagers were killed on the spot after the car they were travelling in collided with another car that was being driven against the traffic.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Rahmat Ariffin said the incident happened at KM6.4 Lebuh Ismail Sultan Ismail on Thursday (Oct 5) at 4.20am.

“The head-on collision involved two cars, one of which was being driven against traffic when the incident happened," he said in a statement.

ACP Rahmat said the driver and passenger of one of the vehicles died on the spot, while the driver of the car going against traffic suffered injuries.

“We have taken blood samples for analysis whether they were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs," he said.

Meanwhile, Iskandar Puteri fire station chief Mohd Khairi Zainuddin said the Johor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre received an emergency call regarding the incident at 4.18am on Thursday.

He said 20 firemen from the Iskandar Puteri and Larkin fire stations were deployed to the scene with two Fire Rapid Tender (FRT) vehicles, an Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) vehicle and three units of Rapid Intervention Motorcycles (RIM).

“Two people were found dead in one car while the driver of the other car was injured,’’ said Mohd Khairi.

He said the deceased were identified as Giggs Tan Kah King and Ong Wan Ling, both 19 years old.

Mohd Khairi said both victims were pronounced dead by the medical officer from the Health Ministry who arrived at the scene.

“The bodies of the victims have been handed over to the police for further action," he said.

The operation led by senior officer II Hairulnizam Mohd Noh ended at 6.27am.
