Couple nabbed in Tawau with 4kg of syabu

TAWAU: Police have arrested an Indonesian couple with 4.09kg of syabu worth RM240,000 at the old Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) jetty here.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the husband and wife, who worked at an oil palm plantation in Lahad Datu, were arrested at 8.50am on Wednesday (Oct 4) while waiting for a boat to transport a barrel.

"The suspects did not have any valid identification documents and were believed to be waiting to return to their (home) country via an unregistered route.

"Further examination of the barrel found clothing and a box. We found four plastic packets of green plastic and one of gold plastic in the box.

"All the packages' contents are believed to be syabu destined for the neighbouring country's market," he told reporters on Friday (Oct 6).

According to ACP Jasmin, the suspects have no criminal record and tested negative for drugs.

They have been remanded for seven days until Oct 12 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. – Bernama
