One killed, another injured in collision at Ulu Tiram traffic light stop

JOHOR BARU: A 58-year-old man was killed while another was injured in an accident at Jalan Besar, Taman Desa Cemerlang, Ulu Tiram, here.

Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Department station chief Mohd Faiz Ramli said that the department received a distress call regarding the incident at 6.06am on Friday (Oct 6) and deployed nine personnel to the location on a fire truck.

"There were two vehicles involved in the accident; the first car was driven by a 26-year-old man, and a second car was driven by a 58-year-old man.

"According to the witness, the first car had stopped at the traffic light but was hit by another vehicle from behind, causing it to move forward and into the right.

"The victim’s car was in the opposite direction and failed to evade the pushed car, causing both vehicles to collide," he said when contacted.

The impact caused the victim’s car to overturn, and the victim was pinned inside his vehicle, he added.

"The victim was pronounced dead at the location by the medical team, while the other driver suffered an injury and is currently being treated at Sultan Ismail Hospital," he said.

He added that the body of the victim has been handed over to the police for further action.
