Three killed in six-motorcycle crash on LPT2

DUNGUN: Three motorcyclists have been killed and three others injured in an accident involving six motorcycles at KM333.1 of the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2).

The accident occurred early Friday (Oct 6) morning on the Kuantan stretch near the Paka exit.

Dungun OCPD Supt Maizura Abdul Kadir said the deceased were Muhammad Shah Run Nizam Jaafar, 20, Muhammad Fitri Hanif Rohami, 18, and Ahmad Osama Ramadhan Laidin, 20.

All three succumbed to severe head and body injuries at the scene.

The three injured motorcyclists were Muhammad Firzani Hilman Ariffadhillah, 20, Muhammad Haziq Haikal Ismail, 17, and Muhammad Afiq Kamal, 19, who suffered severe leg injuries.

Supt Maizura said the incident is believed to have occurred when Muhammad Firzani's motorcycle was hit from behind by another motorcycle while travelling from Paka to Kemaman, causing the victim to fall on the road.

"Other motorcyclists following are believed to have tried to avoid each other at first, but failed – resulting in the collision.

"The impact caused three of the motorcycles to hit the road divider, and their riders were thrown onto the road," she said.

It is believed that all those involved were heading home to Kemaman after enjoying nasi lemak at the Paka R&R area, she added.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Hospital Dungun's Forensic Unit with the injured sent to the same hospital for treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and police are seeking witnesses to help in the investigation by contacting the nearest police station. – Bernama
