PUTRAJAYA: All rice wholesale premises in Selangor inspected under the Local White Rice Integrated Operation (OP BPT) were found to have adequate stocks of local and imported white rice.
The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry said all inspected premises still had a valid licence and the rice stocks did not exceed the licensed maximum quantity.
The operation was led by Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Chan Foong Hin in a cross-agency enforcement cooperation with the Padi and Rice Board, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, and police.
In the operation, rice samples were taken while the rice stocks in the warehouses were inspected.
“All samples taken complied with the established enforcement procedures and will be submitted to the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) for analysis to determine if there has been substitution of rice bags or mixing of local and imported white rice,” the ministry said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.
The ministry said it will not compromise with those who change rice bags or mix local white rice with imported white rice or hide rice stocks.
