BENTONG: No complaints on election offences have been lodged during the campaign period for the Pelangai by-election, says Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh.
He said this include claims on misuse of assets and machinery for campaign purposes by any party, Bernama reported.
“There have been no unwarranted complaints.
“We have also not received complaints on the alleged misuse of government assets and machinery,” he told reporters after inspecting preparations at the Pelangai by-election vote tallying centre at the Felda Kemasul community hall yesterday.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had called on the EC to investigate Barisan Nasional for allegedly using state government assets and machinery and for giving incentives throughout the Pelangai by-election campaign period.
Pahang Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail had rubbished the allegation, saying the state coalition was ready to be investigated.
Speaking on preparations for polling day, Abdul Ghani said the EC expected voter turnout to reach 75%.
“Since the constituency is not that big, I expect the election outcome to be known by 9pm,” he said.
Meanwhile, the commission, in a statement, advised voters to follow the recommended voting times and not wait until the very last minute.
It also reminded employers to give their employees reasonable time to go out to vote as provided for under the Election Offences Act 1954.
The Pelangai state by-election sees a three-cornered fight between Barisan candidate Datuk Amizar Abu Adam, Perikatan Nasional candidate Kasim Samat and Independent Haslihelmy DM Zulhashi.
The by-election was called following the death of Datuk Seri Johari Harun from Barisan, who was killed in a plane crash in Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam, Selangor, on Aug 17.
