One hurt in gas explosion at apartment

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was injured after a gas explosion ripped the 10th floor of a block at the Desa Tun Razak Apartment, blasting open a kitchen wall and damaging 12 motorcycles.

A spokesman from the City Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said they received a distress call at 10.59pm on Thursday.

“We deployed 16 personnel and four fire engines from the Sungai Besi and Bandar Tun Razak fire stations.

“A fire and explosion had occurred in one of the units on the 10th floor of Block 4, believed to be caused by a gas leak,” said the spokesman in a statement yesterday.

The explosion also damaged two other apartment units.

“The victim, a 32-year-old man, suffered 30% burns.

“He was sent to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz and was reported to be in the red zone of the hospital’s emergency department,” said the spokesman.

The spokesman also said that the explosion caused part of the apartment kitchen wall to collapse, damaging 12 motorcycles at the ground level parking lot.
