BENTONG: Barisan Nasional has unofficially won the Pelangai by-election after its candidate Datuk Amizar Abu Adam managed to obtain a simple majority with 7,324 votes as at 8.15pm on Saturday (Oct 7).
This means he has garnered more than half the 11,480 ballots cast in the rural constituency.
Perikatan Nasional's candidate Kasim Samat managed to get 4,375 votes.
There were more than 16,383 eligible voters and as of 5pm on Saturday, 71% or 11,631 had cast their votes.
Barisan is expected to pick up more votes from the polling district of Telemong, a strong support base for Pakatan, Barisan's ally in the by-election.
