200 nabbed over illegal racing, dangerous bike stunts in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Police arrested 200 men and women for participating in illegal motorcycle racing and performing dangerous motorcycle stunts in Penang.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the arrest was part of their Ops Bersepadu (Ops Samseng Jalanan) carried out early Sunday (Oct 8).

"They were caught around the E-Gate area, Lebuh Tunku Kudin, Gelugor here, early this morning.

"The group consisting of 180 men and 20 women were caught in the island's popular hotspot area for illegal racing activities," he said.

ACP Soffian said the ops were carried out between 1am and 4am in collaboration with the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation department.

"We found that a group of motorcyclists had gathered at the E-Gate area to race.

"We then surrounded the area at 3am," he said in a statement today.

ACP Soffian said the motorcyclists tried to escape through the parking area of a supermarket and adjacent buildings but were caught by the police.

"They were then hauled up and made to ride to the police headquarters.

"We arrested one man for having a fake registration number and issued 126 summonses," he said.
