PETALING JAYA: Eight locations in Peninsular Malaysia recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings with Cheras recording the highest at 157 as at 10am Monday (Oct 9).
Data from the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) website showed that Selangor had the most number of locations recording an API of more than 100.
The locations are Banting with an API reading of 156, Klang (155), Shah Alam (153), Johan Setia (153), and Petaling Jaya (143).
The other locations with an API reading more than 100 are Bukit Rambai, Melaka (153) and Nilai, Negri Sembilan (151).
Meanwhile, the APIMS website data showed that there were 56 locations in the country with moderate air quality while there were four areas with healthy air quality with an API of less than 50.
An API reading of zero to 50 indicates that the air quality is good; 51-100, moderate; 101-200, unhealthy; 201-300, very unhealthy; and above 300, hazardous.
API data is released on the APIMS website (https://apims.doe.gov.my/home.html) on an hourly basis and is based on readings at 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide. - Bernama
