KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry is committed to monitoring the food supply in the country with at least 2,200 enforcement officers deployed daily, says Senator Fuziah Salleh.
The Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said of the number, a total of 900 price monitoring officers are also stationed throughout the country.
She said the ministry's enforcement officers also carried out raids on business premises, while its plainclothes officers checked the prices of goods while ensuring sufficient food supply.
"Our enforcers have a schedule but from time to time, they also carry out unannounced checks.
"There are also those in plainclothes who investigate shops (at random) instead of just following a schedule,” she told the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Oct 9).
Fuziah said this in response to Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodi (GPS-Sri Aman) regarding enforcement by the ministry to monitor the supply and price of goods in the market.
On another question regarding Jualan Rahmah, Fuziah said that so far the programme has cumulatively benefitted over 40 million people.
“The subsidy for Jualan Rahmah was RM150mil, with RM100mil allocated through Budget 2023 and the Prime Minister later approving an additional RM50mil.
“So far, we have reached out to 40 million people and the total purchases stand at RM890mil,” she added.
