GEORGE TOWN: A 51-year-old man was arrested by police in connection with the stabbing incident at a food court in a market at Cecil Street here on Wednesday (Oct 11).
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the suspect was detained at about 6.40pm on the same day of the incident.
"He was arrested by a team of police from D7 unit in an area near Macallum Street," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 11).
ACP Soffian said a knife believed to have been used by the suspect had been seized.
In the incident that occured at about 3pm, ACP Soffian said police received information on the incident at about 3.10pm.
He said acting on the information, police went to the location and found the 26-year-old victim in his car injured and bleeding from the wound from a stab wound.
He said the victim suffered injuries on his stomach and legs.
ACP Soffian said the victim was sent to Penang Hospital for treatment.
"Initial investigation found that the cause of the incident was due to a debt issue," he said.
The case is classified under Section 326 of Penal Code.
ACP Soffian called on those in the public who had any information related to the incident to contact investigation officer ASP K.Linkeswaran or nearest police station.
