Cops searching for man who stabbed customer at Penang food court

GEORGE TOWN: Police are looking for a man who is suspected of stabbing a customer at a food court in a market at Cecil Street here on Wednesday (Oct 11).

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the district police headquarters received information from the public informing them about the incident.

"A police team was sent to the location to investigate," he said when contacted.

ACP Soffian said the victim was sent to Penang Hospital for treatment and that the suspect had been identified.

He added that efforts to track him were ongoing.

He said police were still investigating the incident and the motive.

It is learned that police also confiscated a knife believed to be used by the suspect during the incident.

It is believed that a quarrel between a food operator and a customer happened before the matter escalated to the stabbing incident.

The suspect then fled from the scene after stabbing the victim.
