Klang cops probe incident of man in custody being beaten after video goes viral


KLANG: Klang police have vowed to conduct a transparent and fair investigation into an incident where a suspected drug dealer was beaten while in police custody.

A video of the alleged incident has been circulated by Edisi Siasat through the Telegram mobile phone app.

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Cha Hoong Fong said police were alerted to the video at around 8am on Wednesday (Oct 11).

"Based on our checks the incident occurred at the South Klang police headquarters Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) office at around 10.30am on Aug 2.

"An arrest report was made by Insp Azrin Yazid and an investigation paper was opened under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act for drug trafficking," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the suspect was charged with the offence at the Klang Court on Aug 8.

"Further investigations will be carried out by South Klang NCID on the viral video.

"We view this incident seriously and an investigation into the misconduct displayed in the viral video will be looked into," he said, adding that police would not compromise with any personnel found violating the rule of law.

ACP Cha said police would conduct a transparent and fair investigation into the incident and urged all parties not to speculate on the matter.
