PAS and PN to hold peace rally on Friday

PETALING JAYA: PAS, with Perikatan Nasional, is organising a peace rally on Friday in the wake of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Deputy PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi said the gathering, themed “Save Masjidil Aqsa”, will be held in front of the National Mosque after the Friday prayers.

“The war symbolises the awakening of Islam in Palestine whose people have been imprisoned in their own country by the Zionists, subjecting them to persecution and torture, including the intrusion into the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

“Hundreds of lives have been lost in the war and thousands injured, many of them women, children and senior citizens, and we can’t remain silent in this hour of need,” he said yesterday.

Afnan urged all Muslims and Malaysians to join the protest in solidarity with Palestinians who are caught in the violence.

“PAS is calling on all Muslims and Malaysians to come to the National Mosque to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.

“Let us be with one heart, with no racial barriers or religion, colour or political alignment and show solidarity with our fellow human beings,” he said.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the police have yet to be officially notified of Friday’s rally.

“We know that it is a peaceful rally but I don’t think the Dang Wangi OCPD has been given notice of the rally by the organisers,” he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Umno Ulama Council also urged the United Nations Security Council and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to convene immediately to find a solution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

“The Umno Ulama Council also calls on all ulama and Muslims to continue praying for the protection and victory of Islam and Muslims wherever they are,” it added.

Amanah also plans to hold a solat hajat this Friday to pray for the safety of Palestinians.

The party’s vice-president Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the prayer will be held in Shah Alam after the Isyak prayers.

“After the prayers, we will hold a ceramah,” he said, adding that further information will be provided from time to time.

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Putrajaya will allocate RM1mil through the Humanitarian Trust Fund for the People of Palestine in support of their cause.
