KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 10,000 electric vehicle charging bays (EVCB) are expected to be set up nationwide within the next two years, says Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming.
The target was set following the announcement of planning guidelines to speed up and standardise the development of EVCBs, he said.
"We plan to have 10,000 EVCB nationwide by 2025, and we require a tenfold effort to do so as we currently have 1,267," he told a press conference in Parliament on Thursday (Oct 12).
Under the guidelines, local councils will approve applications to set up EV stations at both indoor and outdoor premises in their jurisdiction, including rooftops, between seven and 14 days.
Nga also said the guidelines for setting up EV stations will be standardised in each state.
He also said his Ministry and PLANMalaysia will launch the National Electric Vehicle Dashboard by Nov 1 to allow investors to decide where to set up EV stations from among 10,596 suitable locations.
Nga said those operating the existing 1,276 ECVBs will be given a two-year grace period to register with the relevant local council.
