Johor vocational college to offer EV-related course by 2026

A VOCATIONAL college offering electric vehicle (EV) courses will be set up in Johor by 2026, says Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying (pic).

“The EV-related course, Automotive Hybrid Technology and Electric Vehicle, will be offered to a vocational college in Pengerang, Johor,” she said in reply to Zahir Hassan (PH-Wangsa Maju).

Currently, a total of 53 vocational colleges nationwide have courses related to EV as well as hybrid technology and robotics.

The setting up of the additional vocational college will provide a boost to the nation’s efforts to promote the use of EVs, which are getting more popular by the day.

Lim said 23 vocational colleges nationwide have courses related to artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), while five vocational colleges are offering practical training in smart farming and IoT.

The employment opportunities of TVET graduates, he said, have risen each year.

“In 2021, 99% of our TVET graduates have been employed while in 2020 it was 98%, and in 2019 it was 97%,” she said in reply to Roslan Hashim (PN-Kulim Bandar Baharu).

Lim also said the ministry will be encouraging secondary school students to join vocational colleges.

“This is to ensure that we can achieve the requirements under the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0),” she added.

Lim said the ministry had collaborated with high impact industries to provide quality vocational education aligned with industry demands.

“We launched the 21st century learning (PAK21) and added IoT course models into Business Management programmes.

“This is to expose students to computer technology in online businesses and business management,” she said.

The ministry is also looking into improving school equipment to ensure students receive training that are in line with IR4.0, she added.
