Motorcyclist killed by falling tree in Tuaran

KOTA KINABALU: A motorcyclist was killed after a tree fell on top of him along Jalan Impian Jadi in Tuaran near here on Thursday (Oct 12).

The victim, identified as Indonesian Syair Sukma, 45, was believed to have died on the spot following the 7.30am freak accident.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Hamsa Isnurdini said they received a call about the incident at 7.58am.

“A team from the Tuaran fire station led by officer Leo Sabidol arrived at the scene, some 11km away. They immediately chopped up the (fallen) tree trunk and later removed it from the victim who was pinned underneath,” he said in a statement

Medical officials declared the victim dead at the scene before his body was turned over to the police for further action including a post-mortem, Hamsa added.

The operation ended after all hazardous elements were cleared from the scene by 9.45am, he said.
