PETALING JAYA: Resources have been deployed to help all stranded MYAirline passengers following its suspension announcement, says Malaysia Airports.
It said that 39 flights servicing local destinations and one international route to Don Mueang Airport in Thailand were impacted, adding that this affects 5,000 passengers.
"Passengers who are not yet at the airport are advised to not come to the airport. Instead, they can explore alternative flight options from other carriers through the respective airlines’ websites," said Malaysia Airports in a statement on Thursday (Oct 12).
This comes after the low-cost MYAirline announced that it had suspended its operations effective Thursday until further notice due to significant financial pressures.
"It has made it necessary to suspend operations pending the shareholder restructuring and recapitalisation of the airline," it said in a Facebook post.
On this, Malaysia Airports said relevant notices have been put up at the terminals and airport staff are on ground to offer assistance on alternative flight options by other carriers.
"At KL International Airport (KLIA), resting areas have been provided at Level 3, Terminal 2 and at Level 5 at Anjung Tinjau Terminal 1 so that passengers can wait for their next flight comfortably.
"Currently, the situation at affected airports is under control," it added.
Malaysia Airports then said that it remains committed to minimising the inconvenience experienced by affected passengers and in ensuring that all passengers experience a seamless journey at all of its airports.
Following the airline's announcement, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) said it had set up a dedicated hotline and channels to help those affected by the airline's suspension of operations.
It said MYAirline is liable to refund consumers whose flights were affected and added that it is investigating the airline over claims of unpaid statutory dues to its employees, among other issues.
