KOTA KINABALU: Sabah welcomes foreign investors including those from Canada to explore business and collaboration opportunities in the state, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
The Chief Minister said Sabah is rich with natural resources and other industries.
“We hope to get more foreign investments and attract investors to do business here,” he said during a courtesy call from Canada High Commissioner to Malaysia Wayne Robson yesterday.
Both parties discussed tourism, education and investment opportunities during the meeting at Menara Kinabalu here.
They also discussed the visit of His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Ottawa to Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
Later at a press conference, Robson said that this is the first time a Canadian navy ship had arrived in Sabah.
“We are thrilled to be here,” he said, adding that the visit allows the sailors an opportunity to get to know more about Malaysia.
He also said that in 2022, Canada and Malaysia celebrated 65 years of diplomatic relations.
“Our long-standing, positive defence relationship dates back to 1966 when Malaysia was accepted as a recipient nation under our military training programme,” he added.
Robson said the Malaysian Armed Forces had participated in a plethora of training programmes alongside the Canadian military, including English and French language training, senior professional development, as well as courses delivered here in Malaysia at the Malaysian Peacekeeping Centre in Port Dickson.
As part of its programme over the next few days, the ship will fund and participate in some community outreach activities.
The captain and sailors will be visiting a community centre at Kampung Nagasiba where they will help to renovate and provide some much-needed equipment to the centre.
