Man nabbed for shooting at stray dogs

SEREMBAN: Police have detained a man who allegedly shot two dogs, including one which was believed to be pregnant, to death at a quarry in Pantai near here.

Nilai police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said police also seized the weapon used to shoot the dogs believed to be strays.

Earlier, two clips went viral showing a man armed with what is believed to be a hunting rifle shooting dogs at the quarry, which is a private area.

In the clips, two individuals could be seen entering the quarry on a motorcycle, before an armed man gets off and fires several shots at the dogs.

A witness, who only wished to be known as Tharma, said he was fishing at a pond at the quarry around 5.50pm on Thursday when he heard the shots.

“When I asked why he had shot the dogs, the man claimed the canines almost bit his child,” he said, adding that there are no houses nearby.

Incensed by the shooting, Tharma immediately went to the Pantai police station to lodge a report.

The unauthorised killing of animals with firearms is an offence under Section 30 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
