ACTRESS Maya Karin (pic) has called on the government to come up with a comprehensive plan to prevent the haze, Berita Harian reported.
Maya, who is also an environmentalist, said she was worried about the haze problem that plagues the public every year.
“My suggestion is for the government to deal with the haze so that it would not continue to be a problem and endanger the health of the people.
“If not, when will this problem end? Do we have to wait for all the forests to burn down before the problem will be solved? I’m sorry, I’m just speaking frankly,” she added.
Maya, who had just returned from Europe, compared the air quality in the region with that in Malaysia.
“I was just in Europe recently where the skies are clear blue, but when I’m home (in Malaysia), the skies are grey,” the actress said.
The 43-year-old also posted her thoughts on social media, tagging political leaders.
She said she would reach out to the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister to get feedback on actions over the haze problem.
> Popular 1990s singer To’ki refused to comment on allegations that he had not paid his rent for more than four months, Harian Metro reported.
To’ki, whose real name is Mohd Zaki Mansur, allegedly had not paid his house rent amounting to RM3,600 and was given notice to vacate the premises.
He said he was still living in the house.
“I am waiting for an update from Baitulmal (an Islamic charity fund). They are helping me to find a house to rent. I have an appointment to meet them,” he said.
The Malay daily had previously reported that To’ki had not paid the house rent of RM900 a month and was now in arrears from June to September.
The 58-year-old was also accused of disturbing his neighbours by doing carpentry work late at night as well as leaving the house in a mess.
It was reported that the owner of the house, Liza Mohamad, had lodged a police report against To’ki.
The landlord also claimed that the electricity bill was never paid and was RM7,000 in arrears.
It was understood that Liza had allowed To’ki and his family to remain in the house until the end of this month after Baitulmal paid the bills and rent.
