IPOH: The “Release Najib Razak” secretariat is targeting collecting about one million signatures demanding the release of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

According to secretariat coordinator Muhammad Farhan Khairuddin, it has collected nearly 120,000 signatures so far.

“Through two series of our forums held in Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur previously, we managed to collect the signatures physically.

“We are hoping that we can collect the one million signatures and submit them to the Palace,” he told reporters during the forum held at Red Crescent Hall here yesterday.

Farhan said the secretariat will be holding other forums across the country.

“Our next forums will be in Johor Baru, Pahang, Kedah and Penang.

“We will not stop until we can get the signatures and Najib is released.

“From the questions asked by the public, it is clear that people are concerned about Najib’s case,” he added.

Among those who attended were Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, Makkal Sakhti president Datuk Seri RS Thanenthiran, and Tambun Umno division chief Datuk Aminuddin Md Hanafiah.

On Sept 30, Muhammad Shafee said Najib was seeking a royal pardon as he claimed he was not given a proper hearing in the appeal over his conviction in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

He said in the pardon application submitted to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on behalf of Najib, one of the reasons given was that the then newly appointed legal team led by Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik was not given the chance to prepare for the appeal case in the Federal Court on Aug 23.

Najib is currently serving his 12-year sentence after the Federal Court affirmed his conviction and sentence in the SRC case.
