JOHOR BARU: All civil servants should live within their means and avoid getting involved in corruption, says Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
"Civil servants should live within their means and anyone from the public sector that has a lavish lifestyle because of corruption will not escape investigation.
"You (civil servants) are being observed. Obviously, any civil servants who flaunt a lifestyle that is beyond reasonable explanations will raise questions," said the Johor Ruler.
He also said those working in the public service should declare their assets annually as a way of curbing the ownership of "extraordinary properties".
"The government can also look into the salaries of certain civil servants which are too low as this could lead to a stressful life, especially for those living in cities," he said on social media on Sunday (Oct 15).
Sultan Ibrahim decreed that all civil servants in Johor should always uphold integrity in order to increase the rakyat's trust in them.
On Saturday (Oct 14), Bukit Aman's integrity and standards compliance department director Comm Datuk Azri Ahmad said they were looking into how a police officer was capable of owning two Rolex watches.
Preliminary investigations reportedly showed that the senior police officer bought the luxury watches using money given to him by his mother and late father, who was a successful businessman.
