PORT DICKSON: Two brothers, one a teenager, have pleaded not guilty at a Magistrate's Court here to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt to their 58-year-old mother.
The siblings, aged 29 and 17, claimed trial after the charge was read to them before Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani on Monday (Oct 16).
They were charged with jointly committing the offence at their house in Taman Pertama near here at 9.28pm on Sept 28.
The brothers were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which provides imprisonment of up to a year or a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both upon conviction; read together with Section 326A.
Section 326A provides imprisonment for a term which may extend to twice the maximum term the accused is liable for under Section 323.
Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Ezzati Mohd Zainal then asked the court to set bail at RM6,000 pending next mention.
The older suspect, however, asked for a lower amount as he was unemployed.
The younger brother also asked for a lower amount as he was still schooling.
Uthman then set bail at RM3,000 with one surety for each of the suspects and fixed Nov 16 for next mention.
