JOHOR BARU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has donated 10,000 10kg rice bags to the poor throughout the state.
His Majesty, who is always concerned with the people’s welfare, deeply understands the burden of the poor dealing with shortages and rising rice prices.
Sultan Ibrahim always keeps up with current developments and feels saddened when reading about the grievances raised by the people following the increase in food prices.
"I hear and understand the concerns of my subjects regarding shortages and the rising prices of necessities such as rice and others," His Majesty said in a statement posted on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page on Monday (Oct 16).
To help alleviate the burden the people face, His Majesty has graciously provided rice assistance through the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation (YSIJ).
"YSIJ will distribute 10,000 free rice packages weighing 10kg each to those in need," Sultan Ibrahim.
His Majesty graced a ceremony for donating rice bags by YSIJ at Istana Polo here.
The rice bags will be donated to those in need in 10 districts, including security personnel from the Johor police contingent and the 7th Military Brigade.
The donation will benefit the less fortunate in Johor Baru (580 rice packages), Muar (340), Batu Pahat (432), Segamat (305), Kluang (71), Pontian (264), Kota Tinggi (477), Mersing (149), Tangkak (141), and Kulai (251).
The Johor police received 3,990 bags of rice, while the 7th Military Brigade received 3,000 packages for staff of various ranks.
Present at the ceremony were Johor Mentri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Johor State Secretary Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani, YSIJ managing trustee Datuk Avinderjit Singh and YSIJ chief executive officer Mohd Anizam Jamian.
