Orang Asli in interior Kelantan want basic amenities

GUA MUSANG: The Kelantan Orang Asli have high hopes that the RM333mil allocated under Budget 2024 will benefit the community that lives in the interior of the state who need clean water, roads, telecommunication lines and electricity.

“I hope the government will focus on the Orang Asli in the interior who don’t have such facilities. We are in 2023, but the gap in facilities is very wide compared to urban residents,” Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa) director-general Datuk Sapiah Mohd Nor told reporters here yesterday, Bernama reported.

“At the moment we are waiting for the integrated road upgrades involving Pos Gob, Pos Bihai, Pos Balar, Pos Belatim, Pos Hau and Pos Simpor to be completed.

“The monsoon season makes it hard to travel on damaged logging roads.”

She said the funds would be used to build new roads and community halls as well as provide water supplies, welfare aid and socio-economic projects.

“On the whole, Jakoa received a high allocation, more than 2023, and we will look at the infrastructure, social amenities such as upgrading of community halls, rural roads and economic assistance,” she told reporters.
