Two men found drowned in Sitiawan's Sungai Kayan


IPOH: Two men were found drowned in Sungai Kayan, Sitiawan, a day after they were reported missing.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said the two victims, both aged 34, were found floating in the river during a search and rescue operation on Monday (Oct 16) at about 8.20am and 12.30pm.

ACP Mohamed said both victims were reported missing on Sunday (Oct 15) at about 8.20pm.

"The two men were believed to be relatives.

"They had left their home on Sunday at about 1.30pm to return the boat to the father of one of the victims in Pengkalan Kota Setia in Perak Tengah from Sungai Tiram, Sitiawan," he said.

"At 2.30pm, the wife of one of the two victims failed to get in touch with her husband and called members of the public for help.

"At 3.30pm, the sampan was found, but the two men were missing," he added.

ACP Mohamed Nordin said the victims' bodies had been sent to the Seri Manjung Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

"The cause of death was drowning,

"The case has been classified as sudden death," he said.

The victims were later identified as Muhammad Afandy Mamosati and Mohd Amirul Azril Mohd Shafiee.
