Zero waste community programme well received, says deputy minister

JOHOR BAHRU: The Zero Waste Community Programme (Kosis) implemented in 17 People’s Housing Projects (PPR) nationwide has been well-received, with an increasing rate of materials sent to recycling centres, says Deputy Local Government Development Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (pic).

Deputy Minister of Local Government Development said a total of 15,429 transactions were recorded as of August, compared to 9,769 transactions in the same period last year.

"This data proves that the residents in the 17 PPR have welcomed the implementation of the programme, which benefits them,” he said in a statement today.

Akmal Nasrullah said, based on records, 46.6% or 6,333 units in the 17 PPRs have registered with Kosis Centres from 2020 until August this year.

Therefore, he said the programme under the ministry through the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) needs to be intensified to ensure that the target of up to 70% of premises in 17 PPR participating in the programme is achieved by 2025.

He said the target was one of the five goals outlined by SWCorp through the ‘Sifar Sisa Bersamamu Madani’ PPR community initiative.

Akmal Nasrullah added that the initiative aims for a recycling rate of 40% by 2025 and the digitalisation of recycling in line with the rapid development of information technology. - Bernama
