EC meeting on Kemaman by-election in progress

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) special meeting on the Kemaman parliamentary by-election has begun at Menara SPR here on Tuesday (Oct 17).

The meeting, chaired by EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, is to set the important dates for the by-election, such as nomination and polling.

Also present were EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak and EC members Zoey Randhawa, Dr Mohd Faisal Syam Abdol Hazis, Datuk Nik Ali Mat Yunus and Datuk Dr Lee Bee Phang.

The by-election was necessitated after the Terengganu Election Court, on Sept 26, nullified the victory of Che Alias Hamid of PAS in the 15th General Election.

The court held that the petitioner, voter Wan Mohamad Hisham Wan Abdul Jalil, had proven that corruption had taken place with the aim of influencing voters.

On Oct 3, PAS said it would not file any appeal against the election court decision. - Bernama
